The ideal temperature depends on your hair type. For dry hair, set the temperature between 140 and 160 degrees Celsius. For good hair, set it between 180 and 200 degrees Celsius. For thick or curly hair, set it between 170 and 200 degrees Celsius. Do not exceed 200 degrees Celsius.
It is important to use a heat protection spray or serum before hair ironing to minimise damage. You can also use smoothing or moisturising shampoos and conditioners to create straight or sleek hair.
Divide your hair into small sections. Take a clean section of hair and clamp the hair iron at the root. Twist the iron about 45 degrees downward to create tension and slowly smooth the iron down to the ends. Avoid going over the same piece of hair multiple times as this can cause burning.
Use a hairspray, a post-straightening product, or a setting spray to keep your hair straight all day. Anti-frizz serum that contains silicone is especially effective.
